Elitism at its best.

Was reading theonlinecitizen.com regarding this PAP MP who replaced older Singaporean workers with foreigners( http://theonlinecitizen.com/2010/03/who-elected-these-clowns/ ), i scrolled down and was stunned to read the comments written by this guy with the moniker of Hansen. I do not know if what he said is true or he is just a troll, I've copied and pasted the comments he made. Truly elitism at its best.

"uneducated old people are useless. we can keep the educated ones as they are still useful but the uneducated ones can work as our maids and cleaners. this will reduce the dependence on foreign maids."

"hi joe, yes we will all grow old one day just like we were all young once.

uneducated old people are just trash. plain and simple. good for nothing. vile and feral human beings."

"i treat my parents real nice. i bring them for checkups and give them a generous allowance monthly. they brought me up, i pay them back. it is like repaying a loan from the bank. a natural and decent thing to do.

but will i ever listen to their advice? no. dont be stupid. they dont even know how to use the internet and can’t even point out europe or indonesia on the world map.

look at all these old uneducated usless people in our hawker centers and macdonalds. what are they good for? nothing. despite their total lack of education and knowledge, most of these people are extremely loud and vile. disgusting feral human beings. most cannot even recite their abcs properly.

i met this old lady begging for money the other day stalking me. she had more lines on her face than a zebra. and many of her teeth were missing. she hissed at me in some chinese dialect that is not hokkien. i spoke to her in english. she didn’t understand. i tried mandarin. she didn’t understand. and i couldn’t understand her dialect. she started running towards me waving her arms at me agressively. she gripped my arm and pulled at me.

i told her in english to get an education so she can be a useful member of society. with an education, she wont be begging for money or working in hawker centers for 800 sgd a month. she stared at me like a dazed donkey without a brain.

i then took out two dollars and threw it on the floor for her to pick up so she would stop harressing me.

with a sad shake of my head, i walked away quickly. i took a good bath at home to ensure that i wash all her filth off me properly. god knows what those hands of her have handled.

how can we solve this problem of old, uneducated and trashy useless people in our society?"

"when you meet some of these old educated fools who cannot string together a proper sentence in english or make any sense no matter what they say, you really have to wonder about the infinity of human stupidity.

i guess it is just a reflection of their third world upbringing. we would have better luck talking to a turkey. i think birds are more intelligent than them."

"i get what you mean.

i am educated, well paid, well housed, and intelligent.

these old uneducated people are uneducated, work for peanuts, live in shitty quarters and dumb.

so? lol. if there are no uneducated, dumb and poor people, how can there be educated, smart and rich people?

if everyone is a harvard graduate who will work as a hawker?

these uneducated people are there for us to step on. they are the idiots who make us appear intelligent. they are the trash who make us appear as humans. so feel free to step on them. they are good for nothing, literally. no skills, no education and cant even speak english well."

"strumtruppen,

dont be an idiot please. you think anyone will care if you need help? sure they will help a little if they can but not much. you die your business. a classless society is a pipe dream boy.

are you living in lalaland?

wake up. time to wake up. wonder how your daddy and mommy brought up such a delusional person.

i think we should make all these old uneducated people work as our maids and cleaners. at least it would give them employment and reduce the reliance on foreigners.

i would be glad to employ one of these people to clean my toilet bowls and floor."

"Anonymous Coward,

you said it yourself. these people grew up poor and had no education and had a third world upbringing. that is the crux of the problem. the third world mindset sticks with them forever. no manners, no intelligence, no skills and no education.

it is not true that each successive generation outdo the previous one. in many other long developed countries, the percentage of degree holders in older generations is almost the same as younger ones. similiarly in singapore, there are plenty of older ppl who did their degrees and landed good jobs.

old people are the ones who built the nation? dont make me laugh.

sure some people did contribute to the nation but these are the educated skilled older people who spoke good english and are highly intelligent.

the coffeshop hawker, cleaner, admin assistant did not build the nation. they were just struggling to make a living from month to month. in fact, they are a liability to the nation. they are trash. lowlife human beings.

these people could not build lego bricks even if they set their mind to it. that is how trashy they are.

whenever i see one of these people, i roll my eyes and give them the disgusted look. if they are rude to me, i will remind them of their total lack of education and skill, which is why they are making 20% of what i make and they are the ones serving me food…tsk tsk"

"“really”,

i am not high class, i do not even drive, my house is modest and my wife is normal looking but intelligent. my iq is also much probably much lower than 200.

but i am much better than your uneducated, old, rude, vile trash."

"how many uneducated trash were lucky enough to make it big in business? come on, wake up and face the world.

if it was that easy to start a business and strike it rich, why are there these hawkers and petrol kioks assistants etc?

9 out of 10 businesses fail. of those that dont fail, only a small percentage manage to break even. out of those that manage to break even, only a few manage to make a profit.

when you talk to these lowlife trash about education and getting a professional job, all these chinese helicopters always tell you that without education you still can run big businesses, drink at ktv lounges, drive mercedes…

i guess they can’t say they worked as accountants or doctors or any professional, can they? i will laugh my ass off if they say that.

either that or they buy 4d every week and pray to strike it big.

delusional like hell.

most of the time, small business owners put in hours after hours just to see small profit margins. they might as well work for someone and it will be more stable and they will earn more money for much less effort."

"why would you think i am joking?

singapore and many countries have an aging population problem. see how governments all over the world call it a “problem” and not a “good thing”?

a third world upbringing has left many of these trash with a terrible attitude. many are rude, vile and agressive."

"gemami, you have to do better than wishing i get struck by lightning or suddenly become paralysed. how supertitious can you be?

i guess you must be uneducated and old eh?

the cleaners and hawkers are not serving me. please dont talk like they go to work everyday thinking of how they can contribute and make this world a better place. they are out to scrape a living that is all. many won’t even donate 50 bucks to charity when someone begs them to.

when i am old and leaking urine, i have enough money to employ a nurse. i also have insurance so dont worry about me. worry about the uneducated trash who have neither money or education.

what is wrong with looking down on the uneducated? you dont study hard in school, you have no skill, you can’t find a decent job, you live in poverty. simple.

everyone looks down on the uneducated. and old people are looked down upon as well because they are just more expired and ugly. many have no education and are slower. many are jaded and ignorant.

why do you think companies refuse to employ workers above 40,45?"

"randomnessinmind, who cares if you earn more than me? i doubt you earn more than me and even if u do, so what? it is not like i need money, i have enough.

you are still uneducated and you are still trash. you still have a third world mindset and attitude. i can find a job anywhere in the world easily, it doesn’t matter if i am retrenched because i am educated and skilled and young.

it wont be you putting me down. it will be me putting you down.

how do you compare a third world uneducated punk to a first world educated man? you just can’t compare and you just can’t win, can’t you see?

to all the old punks leaking urine out there, i just want you to know my arteries are not clogged and i have a head full of black shiny hair. it is a good day my friends, not for you but for me.

thank you."

"why would i remember what i said on this forum?

crazy man."

Homophobia - A much needed change.

Homosexuals have been oppressed since many years ago in modern society. The level of homophobia here in Singapore is significantly higher as compared to other European and most western countries, judging from the amount of derogatory comments I’ve seen in various online articles which added salt to the wound, backing Pastor Rony Tan’s slander on homosexuality, justified by literal biblical interpretations.

One comment pointed out the inaction of the LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender) community regarding such discriminations etcetera. However, the truth is that these activists are largely silenced and showcasing homosexuality in a positive light in our 151th media is banned and will be fined by Media Development Authority.

Mediacorp was fined for an episode of a home and decor series called "Find and Design" that featured a gay couple wanting to transform their game room into a new nursery for their adopted baby. MDA stated that the gay couple and their baby “promote a gay lifestyle". There are more cases of censorships such as Sean Penn’s Oscar acceptance speech for Milk, parts of Desperate Housewives and more. As a result, homosexuals only have a place in Singapore TV dramas as the gay paedophile or molester, furthering enforcing the stereotype and leave homosexuals little to no way to redeem themselves and change general misconceptions in mainstream media.

People Like Us is a group which “believes that everyone in Singapore should have a full and equal place in our society regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and to this end, (they) shall work for more informed understanding, the removal of barriers and a fuller integration of sexual minorities with the larger community”. However, the government’s Registrar of Societies denied the group’s application on two counts in 1997 and 2004. Luckily, the group was not deterred by its status and continued its work to combat homophobia and organised various events such as forums, workshop etcetera as an informal group, starting Indignation, Singapore’s very own pride season of LGBT intellectual culture. Other than the denial from the registrar, the GLBT community also often encountered denials for permits from the authorities regarding various events such as exhibitions, picnic and 5km runs.

Against widespread state-sponsored homophobia, Singapore’s LGBT community, activists and supporters tried to repeal Section 377a in the recent years and managed pass a petition and sparked the most heated debate in parliament history. However, as we all know, the law has been retained as “(Singapore is) a conservative society uncomfortable with the notion of homosexuality”. Though ones cannot be sure about the general population’s exact sentiments as the online petition for the both retain and repeal are not regulated – zealots from both sides can submit multiple signatures.

On the international stage, the controversial issue of gay rights has also been hotly debated all over the world and domestic political wars being fought in US’s various states over it as well as several other countries. Often than not, it is the “deviant and unnatural” LGBT supporters against the “holy and morally right” right-wingers. A year ago, “United Nations Declaration on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity” was proposed to condemn violence, harassment, discrimination, exclusion, stigmatization and prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity to the UN. 67 of the United Nations' 192 member countries have sponsored the declaration, including every member of the European Union and most Western nations. Singapore, the only first world country joined the ranks among second and third world countries and declined the declaration, making no attempts to make a step for social justice.

Singapore is the one of the few if not the only first world country which criminalizes homosexual acts. Other than laws that feed homophobia, religious hatemongers such as Pastor Rony Tan, Thio Li-ann and various individuals who caused the AWARE saga continue to cast aspersion onto the LGBT community. Frequent allegation and unsubstantial argument and insults used include but are not limited to paedophiles, zoophile, sexual and/or drug abuser etcetera.

These then in turn can encourage and cultivate mentalities such as internalized and social homophobia for LGBT and heterosexuals respectively. A LGBT individual with internal homophobia will often feel negative towards oneself due to his/her sexuality and can easily develop inferior complex, depressions etcetera. A heterosexual with social homophobia might fear issues such as being approached by homosexuals romantically, being molested or being labelled a homosexual, curtailing social interaction with others of the same sex.

According to UK HIV/AIDS charity AVERT, lack of homosexual feelings or experiences, religious views, and lack of interaction with gay people are strongly associated with such views. With the government and certain religious organisations joining hands in discriminating against homosexuality coupled with generally apathetic Singaporeans who do not question much, world 151th media, unwelcoming environment for coming out of the closet, a vicious cycle is formed to demonise homosexuality. It is no wonder that homophobia is so prevalent in Singapore.

The Hypocrisy.

In our country where welfare is a dirty word, gays are spared from the hammer of justice for their contributions to society, which is logical. For LGBTs contribute to the society as well to attain our relatively good GDP.

"I don't think we are homophobic," Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said. Then he went on to give everyone reason to wonder.

At a luncheon Question and Answer session organised by the Foreign Correspondents' Association on 6 October 2005, Lee was asked by Time magazine correspondent Jake Smith how he felt about gays, while throwing in a comment that the Singapore Government gave "every impression of being somewhat homophobic".

Read from yawningbread.org.

I believe Mr Alex Au practically said it all.

Results of Homophobia

A study in the US showed that LGB have a higher risk of suicide than non-LGB young adults aged 18-26. The reported % of respondent who have thoughts of suicide are 17.2% and 6.3% respectively. The % of respondents who attempted suicide are 4.9% and 1.6% respectively. The LGB respondents are more prone to suicide due to depression and significantly less to alcohol and drug abuse as compared to the non-LGB respondents.

See full report HERE.

According another to another study - "Gay Male and Lesbian Suicide" by Paul Gibson in 1989, he concluded that gay and lesbian youths are 2 to 3 times more likely to suicide, and the results of both studies seem to correlate.

Factoring in the state-sponsored homophobia, the environment of Singapore towards LGBT is much more toxic than that in the US. The figures reported might be even higher here. By taking part in breeding homophobia, you are indirectly driving LGBT to attempt suicides. Do you want your son or daughter to have social homophobia? Do you want to increase the risk of your future child to be traumatized by his/her best friend’s suicide? Do you hope that any of your child or future generation to be prone to suicide if he or she happens to be a LGBT?

Although the chances of these happening might be slim, you will never know. You can join the government to discriminate against homosexuals, stay neutral and apathetic or sound out against it. Our future generation will reap what we sow, regardless of being LGBT or not. Although homophobia will never be fully eradicated, we should start doing something to stop homophobia for our future generations.

to the homophobes out there.

For those who are using the bible to justify homophobia,
Did humans walk along with the dinosaurs?
Why didn't Noah bring a pair of dinosaur with them into the ark?
If God created earth then men, where are the dinosaurs in the bible?
Dinosaurs are vegetarians as claimed by some ministries?
http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/1999/11/05/dinosaurs-and-the-bible
Are we all product of Adam & Eve's inbreeding?
Where is Noah's Ark?
What did they actually do to survive so long in the ark?
After the flood, they inbred again?
How did the people live till hundreds of years old as stated in Genesis when our lifespan averages at around 70-80+ with current living standard?

If anyone likes to quote/interpret literally from the bible, please clarify the above points with objective evidences about the few points raised above and whether its logical and possible through the scientific method before further quoting.

The myth that being gay/lesbian/bisexual is a choice or psychological problem and can be "cured" is endorsed by pseudoscience institutes, often than not owned, managed, or sponsored by (anti-gay) Christians.

Major US, UK and Australian professional and scientific organizations regard attempts to change people's sexual orientation as potentially harmful.

Even the ex-chairman of the largest ex-gay ministry Exodus International who claimed that its "curable" showed otherwise - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Paulk
I believe there are more cases such as his out there.

If you still do not believe these, try reading http://psychology.ucdavis.edu/rainbow/HTML/facts_bibliography.html , maintained by the University of California. Write in to the experts and challenge their professional views on such issues.

For those Darwin’s theorem people, evolution can explain homosexuality. Do you know, the more sons you have, the higher the chance of him being gay?
"The birth order effect on homosexuality is probably a by-product of a mechanism that shifts personalities more in the feminine direction in the later born sons, reducing the probability of these sons engaging in unproductive competition with each other."
http://www.lrainc.com/swtaboo/stalkers/em_homosexuality.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraternal_birth_order_and_male_sexual_orientation

For further reading, if you think biology have little to no link to homosexuality - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biology_and_sexual_orientation

Please open your mind and move on please.
The bible was used to justify slavery.
The bible was used to justify sexism.
Shrimps were sinful to be eaten.
The god killed countless in the bible, even more than the devil.

Study showed that Norway has about 31-72% of Atheist/Agnostics, yet it one of the best place to live on Earth and one of the most peaceful country. It is also one of the most open-minded countries to acknowledge women, human as well as LGBT rights.

The courts in the US ruled out teaching creationism in public school. They approved most gay rights and decriminalized homosexual sex.

Will the US and most western/European countries end up like the bible's Sodom and Gomorrah who "turned against God"?

I doubt so.

Furthermore, do the straight people have anything to lose for gay people to fornicate in their own private space or for them to get a civil union, domestic partnership or even marriage? In fact, it is good for the economy and our government's face. LGBT couples can even adopt children and help with the declining birth rates. The LGBT gets to live their life as normal people, just that their partner is of the same sex and the government gets the economy stimulation, face and even better birth rates.

Do you want to be those that people label as "fundamentalist who follows by blind faith" and continue deny the minority's right?

Anyway, before anyone start the fallacy regarding gay parents breeding gay child, IT IS UNPROVEN. On the contrary, gay parents might even make better parents. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_parents

P.S. if you have any rebuttal, please link non-religious source, for I do not subscribe to any religious beliefs.

Scandalous!

My god(figuratively), i've seen the phrase "get out of my elite uncaring face" floating around the net but didn't know the origins of it until like minutes ago.

Other than that, read JBJ's profile.

Just wanna share with whatever readers i have out there about these things, especially JBJ's experience.

People often have prejudice against the oppositions and think that they do not have talents which are comparable to the PAP. The GRC system (having 5-6 people in order to join election), banning of ALL political films(until recently revised to restrict certain kinds), protest strictly regulated (you need to ask the police for permission) and some other laws and regulations. Its no wonder that oppositions are unable to garner much support base and get voted in for test runs.

However, from what we saw from Hougang and Potong Pasir (both non-GRC) which are won by oppositions, the people there are still voting them elections after elections. Why? I believe the answer is evident.

LHL - Singaporeans come first.

http://theonlinecitizen.com/2010/02/sers-flats-converted-to-condo-for-expats/

DK
Feb 6, 2010 1:37

Let me see if I got this right.

Under HDB’s rules, foreigners, expats, permanent residents, students and S Pass holders are not eligible for rental flats provided by the HDB. So HDB do a SERS on those block and instead of demolishing the blocks, they transfer it to EM Services. Since they are transferred to EM Services, these blocks are technically not considered HDB flats.

So EM Services (which is partly own by HDB) can rent them out to foreigners, expats, permanent residents, students and S Pass holders without breaking HDB’s rules. Am I right?

WOW, I must really respect the person who came up with this idea.

Singaporeans first? More like money first, can't even be fucked to forgo some profit for needy singaporeans.

Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth.

i will be writing in regards to Singapore politics from time to time to reach whoever that are willing to listen to help cull political apathy, which retard changes, both good and bad in our country.

though my english and knowledge is nowhere near good, i will be writing whatever i know of and share my opinions and its up to reader's discretion to agree or disagree with me.

however, i do hope that if you think that i am misinformed regarding things that i've wrote, please point it out and back it up with evidences etc and regarding controversial issues, debates are most welcomed.

i am and will always be partisan, for i believe that no government is perfect. but NO government will improve if we keep the status quo. i simply refuse to believe that political parties will reprogram themselves and their beliefs overnight. thus we would have to incite change, which WILL NEVER happen if no actions are taken. this is my form of "activism". =)

my maiden article published to promote change. : )

The Singaporean Government – Worth its weight in gold?

By Wakka Kong and Simeon Ang

The Singapore government has always taken pride in its strong stand against corruption substantiated by Singapore’s high ranking (4th) in the global corruption survey. According to Minister Mentor Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the high salary remunerated to Singaporean ministers helps ensure a clean and honest government as well as to attract and retain local talents. Pegged to a percentage of some of the top earners in our country as well as economic growth, our ministers’ salaries top the world, with our Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong being the highest paid head of government, more than 5 times the remuneration of Mr Barack Obama, President of the United States of America.

We have compiled a table of various data to compare between our leader and other countries’ to answer the mind boggling question of “whether the Singaporean government is worth its weight in gold?”

At first glance, our PM is drawing up to 12 times more than the other first world countries’ PM salary. What is even more surprising is that the anti-corruption rankings of these said countries are better than Singapore. We can see plainly that while Singapore has done relatively well in one area, the country is obviously lagging in other terms. In addition, their rankings in both democracy and quality of life are significantly better than Singapore – one can therefore safely conclude at this juncture, that an effective and efficient government does not require astronomical salaries to counter corruption and/or attract and retain talents who can be sound policy makers.

There is a need however to realize that it takes superior logic and foresight, such as those displayed by our Minister Mentor Mr Lee Kuan Yew in the pre and post independence era of the 60s to 70s – minus Operation Coldstore (which is an outrage in my humble opinion). There is sufficient evidence to claim that the initial management of local housing and education by the first Lee administration provided an impetus for the growth of our country. This allowed the country to be propelled from third world status to that of the first world. However, there seems to be a downturn of sorts in the character and “spur” of the government at this moment. A very recent incident involving the Minister of National Development, Mr Mah Bow Tan who tried to address concern about the housing needs of local Singaporeans by admitting that he was “caught off guard”. It would seem that the million dollar salary he is earning has not compensated him enough to be prudent for the needs of local Singaporeans. If such a said gaffe was isolated and sporadic, it would certainly pass the attention of the citizenry. However, as we all know, our million dollar paid ministers have recently been prone to many a faux pas.

A small little bright spot might be evident in the table we have shared above. This comes in the form of the high GDP per capita data. However, if we were to dissect the data provided we can attribute the high GDP per capita to a few reasons.

One of the main reasons for the high GDP per capita in recent years may be attributed to our lax immigration policy as some analysts suggests. The influx of cheaper immigrant workforce artificially inflated the GDP. However, this in turn strained Singapore’s infrastructure, pushed housing prices through the roof, lowered overall productivity, depressed local’s wages, contributing to the widening of the income gap which is one of the highest, if not the highest among developed countries. Ultimately, the people who reap the most from it are the rich. What many Singaporeans do not realize is that this translates to higher ministers’ salary as their remuneration is pegged to a percentage of the average income of the top 4 earners of 6 different sectors in the country.

Singapore’s ranking on the quality of life study further reinforces the views of many Singaporeans that life in Singapore is far from being a bed of roses, this, as compared to other first world countries. Furthermore, a 2009 study showed that average Singaporeans work much longer hours per year as compared to most other first world country citizens living in their capital. The table below collates some of the average work hours of the abovementioned countries.

The huge disparity in Work hours and domestic purchasing power speaks volumes about the man on Main Street. As opposed to what the government would have its citizens think, Singaporeans are a hardworking bunch. The average work hour of a Singaporean far exceeds that of the other countries in our analysis. And yet what do Singaporeans have at the end of the day? Well, Singaporeans take home the lowest domestic purchasing power of all 5 countries. To add further insult to injury, the government has even called on Singaporeans to be “cheaper, faster and better”. Contrast this phenomenon with that of ministerial salary, we can see the evidence for the brand of a local drink, Heaven and Earth.

For some time now, the Americans have been criticizing about the excesses of Wall Street and the resulting use of Main Street to shore up the country’s economy. Putting this in context with the Singaporean society, it is time for the excesses of the government to be checked with the man on Main Street. It is time the government of Singapore realizes that they are only in power on the premise that they govern for the people and not for themselves. As George H. W Bush himself was quoted as saying, “A government that remembers that the people are its master is a good and needed thing.”
